Arizona Sports Betting Views Cardinals Much Differently Than Rest of Nation

Arizona Sports Betting Views Cardinals Much Differently Than Rest of Nation
Fact Checked by Michael Peters

The Arizona Cardinals capped off the 2021 NFL season with the franchise’s most wins in six years, while giving sports bettors in the Grand Canyon State reason to believe along the way.

The Cardinals finished the year 11-6, qualifying for the NFL Playoffs for the first time since 2015, with the state rallying behind them all fall long.

Data from the BetMGM backs up that anecdote, as Arizona sportsbook customers seem to be far more confident in the Cardinals’ futures than their national brethren.

Arizona opens the season at home against Kansas City at 1:25 p.m. Arizona time Sept. 11 on CBS. That will also be the first time fans can visit the BetMGM Sportsbook retail location at State Farm Stadium on a gameday — the sportsbook is having its grand opening next Thursday.

Here’s a rundown of how BetMGM Arizona bettors have wagered on Kliff Kingsbury’s squad for the 2022 NFL season, versus the operator’s national clientele.

Arizona Has the Cardinals Back

Those using Arizona NFL betting apps have more faith in the Cardinals than those outside the Grand Canyon State.

According to Drew O’Dell, sportsbook data specialist for BetMGM, Arizona more than doubles national averages for tickets on the Cardinals to win the Super Bowl (10.4%, vs. 2.0% nationally), the NFC (51.6%, vs. 11.2% nationally), and the NFC West (43.5%, vs. 16.3% nationally).

Arizona NFL betting at BetMGM has also pushed the Cardinals into the No. 2 spot in the state, in terms of NFC championship betting (38.1% of all tickets and 30.9% of handle), behind only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

By that metric, Arizona more than triples the national BetMGM average, as 9.4% of all tickets on NFC Championship futures (and 9.9% of handle) have gone on Kyler Murray and company for the upcoming season.

Led by the Cardinals, Arizona remains a top-five market nationally for BetMGM when it comes to NFL betting action after rocketing into that spot after last year’s early September launch.
