Arizona Football Bowl Projections: Odds For Wildcats’ 2024-25 Bowl Game

AZ Wildcats celebrating

While it’s hard to pin down a specific turnaround point during most 12-game college football seasons, the moment wasn’t so abstract for the Arizona Wildcats in 2023. The moment above was when former head coach Jedd Fisch benched starting quarterback Jayden de Laura for a redshirt freshman out of Orange County, with Noah Fifita taking the starting role ahead of Arizona’s Week 5 clash with Washington and never looking back.

During his run as starting QB, Fifita completed 72.4% of his passes for 2,869 yards and 25 touchdowns, dicing up Pac-12 defenses while leading Arizona to seven straight victories to close out a 10-3 campaign that few in Tucson will forget anytime soon.

Fast-forward eight months and Fisch is out (having taken the same role at Washington), though Fifita and wideout Tetairoa McMillan are back in Baja Arizona with an eye towards leading the Wildcats to newfound heights in their new conference, and across Arizona sports betting.

Entering the 2024 season, oddsmakers listed the Wildcats’ win total over/under at 7.5, with +1500 odds of winning the Big 12 title in their first year as a member.

Unfortunately, whatever CFP dreams the Arizona Wildcats had went up in flames under the blinding lights of Bill Snyder Memorial Stadium in Manhattan, Kansas on Friday night. That’s where the visiting Wildcats found themselves on the wrong end of a 31-7 shellacking at the hands of the hometown ‘Cats, slamming a dose of reality in Tucson after two straight wins to open the year.

Now, Brent Brennan’s bunch has to find a way to get off the mat when Arizona plays Big 12 rival Utah in Salt Lake City on Sept. 28, following the Wildcats bye week licking their wounds after a beat down by the Sunflower State Wildcats.

All year long, BetArizona.com will keep tabs on the Wildcats’ hypothetical bowl game odds, with this week’s update reflecting Arizona’s 24-point road loss to Kansas State.

Right now, we foresee a trip to El Paso for Arizona this bowl season, with the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl being the most likely landing spot for the Wildcats in 2024, at +150.

Other bowl game possibilities for Arizona right now include the Las Vegas Bowl (+300), Orlando’s Pop-Tarts Bowl (+450) and San Diego’s Holiday Bowl (+1650), though much can change in CFB each weekend. Arizona has never played a bowl game in Florida, with the Wildcats’ last trip to the Sun Bowl coming in 1992 when Dick Tomey led the Wildcats to 20-15 loss at the hands of Baylor. The Wildcats haven’t played in San Diego since 2009, when Stoops capped off another 8-5 campaign with a 33-0 shutout loss to Nebraska, which is a fate that Brennan would like to avoid in 2024.

For now, Arizona enters its matchup against No. 10 Utah with a lot to work on, as the Wildcats look to avoid falling into a slump after getting served a harsh dose of reality by the Wildcats in the Little Apple.

Prior to that, the Wildcats’ last trip to a bowl game came in 2017, when they lost the Foster Farms Bowl in the Bay Area to Purdue by a 38-35 score to finish off the Rich Rodriguez era in Tucson.

The Wildcats reached bowls in four straight seasons from 2012 to 2015 and three straight under Stoops from 2008 to 2010, with Arizona missing bowl season entirely from 1999 to 2007.
