While much of the last quarter-century has been anything but memorable for fans of the Arizona Cardinals, that’s not to say that there haven’t been players that were worth remembering in the Valley. With that in mind, BetArizona.com broke down the best players to don Sedona red since 2000 in all three facets of the game, broken down by position using the approximate value totals that Pro-Football-Reference.com compiles each year.

Offensively, the greatest member of the Cardinals franchise over the last 25 years (and the most valuable player in Arizona history, AV wise, period) has been wideout Larry Fitzgerald, whose 138 AV total in 263 games with the club from 2004 to 2020 nearly double the next closest team member during that time period.
That player is former No. 1 pick Kyler Murray, who has 77 AV in 82 games with the Cardinals since being drafted atop the 2019 NFL Draft, with the Heisman Trophy winner out of Oklahoma ranking ahead of wideout Anquan Boldin, who finished with the third most AV points of any Arizona offensive player between 2000 and 2024, at 63.

Throw in other franchise-caliber Cardinals players like center Lyle Sendlein (57 AV in 136 games between 2007 and 2015), offensive tackle D.J. Humphries (50 AV in 98 games from 2016 to 2023) and guard Reggie Wells (44 AV in 104 games between 2003 and 2009) and you have the upper end of the Arizona AV offensive list covered.
Of the top AV earners by offensive position, only Murray and tight end Trey McBride (21 AV in 49 games since 2022) are still playing for the Cardinals, with the most recent ex-Arizona player being Humphries, who left the Valley back in 2023, while Fitzgerald’s playing days ended in 2020.
Position | Player | Years With Team | Approximate Value During Years |
DE | Calais Campbell | 2008-2016 | 82 |
DT | Darnell Dockett | 2004-2013 | 86 |
DE | Chandler Jones | 2016-2021 | 56 |
LB | Karlos Dansby | 2004-2017 | 68 |
LB | Daryl Washington | 2010-2013 | 36 |
LB | Ronald McKinnon | 2000-2005 | 35 |

S | Budda Baker | 2017-Present | 67 |
CB | Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie | 2008-2010 | 21 |
On the defensive side of the ball, few players have achieved more for the Cardinals than cornerback Patrick Peterson, who had 114 AV in 154 games with the franchise between 2011 and 2020, ranking fifth all time on the franchise’s AV leaderboard.
Overall, Peterson ranked ahead of other Arizona defensive stars like Darnell Dockett, who had 86 AV at the defensive tackle spot for Arizona between 2004 and 2013, while safety Adrian Wilson had 85 AV at safety between 2001 and 2012.
Other top tier defensive players for the club, AV wise, were defensive end Calais Campbell (82 AV in 138 games from 2008 to 2016), linebacker Karlos Dansby (68 AV in 122 games between 2004 and 2017), Budda Baker (67 AV from 2017 to present) and defensive end Chandler Jones (56 AV from 2016 to 2021).
Of the top AV earners on the defensive side of the ball since 2000, Baker is the only player still employed by the Cardinals, with the most recent expat being Jones, who left the Valley back in 2021.
Position | Player | Years With Team | Approximate Value During Years |
K | Neil Rackers | 2003-2009 | 24 |
P | Andy Lee | 2017-2022 | 17 |
Finally, on the specialist side of the game, the two players that earned the most AV in the Valley were kicker Neil Rackers, who had 24 AV in 100 games for the club from 2003 to 2009, while punter Andy Lee racked up 17 AV between 2017 and 2022.
Of the two, Rackers played the most games for the Cardinals, suiting up 100 times for Arizona. Lee played in 96 games with Arizona after starting his NFL career in the Bay Area with Arizona’s NFC West rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, where he played for 11 seasons with 33 AV in 176 games with the club.
