Fresh off another early playoff exit, it’s now or never for the Phoenix Suns this NBA season, with the oldest roster in the 30-team league and a host of talent dotted across the team’s roster.
As Phoenix embarks into a new era under head coach (and Holbrook native) Mike Budenholzer, the Suns are looking to extend their playoff streak to five seasons in a row, which would be the club’s longest streak since making the postseason 13 years in a row between 1988-89 and 2001-02.
This year, oddsmakers across Arizona sports betting have the Suns around +3000 to win that elusive first Larry O’Brien trophy, ranking in a tie with the Los Angeles Lakers for ninth overall.
With the preseason tipped off, NBA fans across the country are getting ready for the '24-25 season. To start the season, BetArizona.com wanted to see what NBA teams have the oldest rosters, as of opening day (Oct. 22.) Using the official team rosters as of opening day, we found the average age of each team and ranked the top 10.
Rank | Team | Average Age |
1 | Phoenix Suns | 28.10 |
2 | Los Angeles Clippers | 27.43 |
3 | Philadelphia 76ers | 27.33 |
4 | Golden State Warriors | 27.25 |
5 | Dallas Mavericks | 26.95 |
6 | Milwaukee Bucks | 26.92 |
7 | Miami Heat | 26.75 |
8 | Boston Celtics | 26.61 |
9 | Minnesota Timberwolves | 26.53 |
10 | Sacramento Kings | 26.48 |
Entering the league year, Phoenix’s veteran-clad roster of superstars like Kevin Durant and All-Stars like Devin Booker and Bradley Beal rank atop the NBA in terms of average age, at 28.10.
Between Durant (who is 36), Beal (31) and Booker (27) and bench players like Mason Plumlee (34), Damion Lee and Frank Kaminsky (31 each), the Suns have no shortage of NBA on-court experience to complement young role players like first-round pick Ryan Dunn out of UVA, who was a top notch defender at the small forward position during his time in Charlottesville.
Overall, that veteran-led lineup put the Suns ahead of the NBA’s other aged teams, such as the Los Angeles Clippers, who were second with an average age of 27.43, while the Philadelphia 76ers were third in the league with an average age of 27.33.
Throw in the fourth place Golden State Warriors (27.25 average age), along with the Dallas Mavericks (26.95 average age), Milwaukee Bucks (26.92 average age), Miami Heat (26.75 average age), Boston Celtics (26.61 average age), Minnesota Timberwolves (26.53 average age) and the Sacramento Kings (26.48 average age) and you have the full rundown of the NBA’s oldest teams entering the 2024-25 league year.
