Which Pro Team is Arizonaâs Favorite Right Now?
Being the only professional sports team in the state thatâs won a championship at Arizona sportsbooks in the last 15 years wasnât enough to help propel the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA up the statewide popularity charts, apparently.
Suns Take Popularity Crown
Thatâs because the Mercury, despite their three WNBA titles between 2007 and 2014, finished well behind a trio of menâs professional sports teams in the Arizona popularity standings this year, with the Phoenix Suns, Arizona Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks finishing ahead of them in spots 1 through 3.
Based on the search volume generated by each team, we can assess that the Suns are Arizonaâs favorite collective of professional athletes, as the NBA stalwarts generated 823,000 in volume during the period in question. That's likely the only title this current edition of the Suns will win in 2025, as the Kevin Durant-led squad has underachieved this season in the loaded Western Conference.
Still, that total put the Suns ahead of the Cardinals, who had a search volume total of 673,000 during the period in question, while the Diamondbacks placed a distant third in the Grand Canyon State with a search volume total of 550,000. Little Love For Phoenix Mercury

Overall, when it comes to sport-by-sport popularity in Arizona, it seems that basketball wins the day, with the NBA franchise in the midst of its 57th season ranking as the most popular professional sports team in the state right now.
