With countless top-notch chefs in the state that can whip out some award-winning pies, it’s no wonder that Arizona residents are big fans of their slice du jour, with residents of the 48th State having a clear preference for the bare bones cheese pizza.
Despite the state being home to James Beard Award-winning pizza empresario Chris Bianco, Arizonans appear to prefer the most basic of all toppings, with cheese pizza scoring a decisive search interest score victory, with 68 points in total, more than doubling the next closest topping (pepperoni, at 33 points).
Celebrated on February 9, National Pizza Day is the perfect way to celebrate Super Bowl Sunday. BetArizona.com used Google Trends to rank the top five pizza toppings in the state of Arizona. We ranked the top five toppings based on search interest scores from a search conducted over the past year on January 22, 2025.
Rank | Toppings | Search Interest Score |
1 | Cheese | 68 |
2 | Pepperoni | 33 |
3 | Supreme | 10 |
4 | Vegan | 9 |
5 | Sausage | 7 |
With a score of 68 points, cheese pizza finished with more points than the rest of Arizona’s toppings list combined, with pepperoni pizzas scoring 33 search interest points, while supreme pizzas were a distant third overall in the Grand Canyon State, with a search interest score of 10 points.
Throw in two more pizza toppings, in vegan pizzas (nine search interest score) and sausage pizzas (seven search interest score) and you have the full rundown of Arizona’s favorite pizza toppings for 2025, with the humble cheese slice being the overwhelming favorite of locals out West.
While Arizonans may have their personal preferences regarding pizza styles, there’s no denying that they by and large like to keep it simple when it comes to what goes on top of the dough and sauce, with no toppings needed to obfuscate things in the land of the saguaro.
