Since Arizona routinely ranks among the top 10 hottest temperature states in America, it’s a good thing National Ice Cream month falls in July. This is the right time to find something cool to eat during the blazing hot summer.
But what is the go-to flavor for everyone in Arizona?
BetArizona.com took a break from Arizona sports betting and utilized Google Trends to determine the most searched ice cream flavors by each state using YouGov’s data on the Top 11 most popular ice cream flavors in 2018. After completing the trends over the past 12 months (from July 6, 2022, to July 6, 2023), we were able to find the top five ice cream flavors in Arizona.
Arizona’s Favorite Ice Cream Flavors
Ice Cream Easy to Find in Phoenix
The No. 1 searched flavor is plain vanilla, followed by chocolate in second, cookies and cream in third, and a tie for fourth with strawberry and mint chocolate chip. Other flavors in the data included butter pecan, chocolate chip cookie dough, pistachio, rocky road, chocolate chip and cake batter.
That’s not too far out of line with a national poll by YouGov that ranked vanilla and chocolate at the top of the list with strawberry, cookies and cream and chocolate chip also earning praise. That national data actually asked the question about how many say a flavor is their favorite, and it’s only 11% for vanilla and 10% for chocolate.
So, it’s not exactly like any flavor is the landslide favorite.
Now, as far as where to find your favorite ice cream, there’s no shortage of lists for the best parlors in Arizona to find your tasty treat.
There’s Sweet Republic and Sugar Bowl in Scottsdale, Churn, Melt and Mary Coyle Ol’ Fashion Ice Cream in Phoenix, The Screamery and Hub Restaurant & Ice Creamery in Tucson and Udder Delights in Gilbert.
It seems Phoenix has the most ice cream shops in the state, as it’s easy to find websites that list the top eight, 10, 15 and even 50 shops in Phoenix alone. And then there’s always the popular Baskin-Robbins, which in 2022 said it had 23 standalone stores in the Phoenix area.
So you can always find ice cream when headed downtown to place bets at the Caesars Sportsbook Arizona at Chase Field or FanDuel Sportsbook at the Footprint Center.
Chances are pretty good there’s an ice cream shop near you and if not, a trip to the grocery store freezer aisle is a great place to cool off while you make your choices.
