Next Arizona Wildcats Offensive Coordinator Odds: Who Replaces Dino Babers in Tucson?

Fact Checked by Thomas Leary

After a disastrous 4-8 campaign in Tucson in 2024, first-year Arizona Wildcats head coach Brent Brennan is left to reshuffle the deck, with offensive coordinator Dino Babers getting his walking papers this week.

Babers failed to live up to the hype upon his return to Southern Arizona, with the Wildcats’ offense sputtering through the year with the 41st ranked passing attack (247.9 YPG) and the 120th ranked rush offense (105.8 YPG), while ranking in a tie for 117th nationally in points per game, at 21.8.

With Babers out at Arizona, it’s worth wondering who the next offensive coordinator of the Wildcats will be, which is why BetArizona.com broke down the odds to see who Brennan might go with to fill out his staff ahead of his second season with the Big 12 program.

Who Replaces Dino Babers As Arizona’s Next Offensive Coordinator?

With no good internal candidates to choose from, we expect Brennan to think outside of the box in his next offensive coordinator hire, with current North Texas Mean Green offensive coordinator Jordan Davis being our top pick, at +325.

While Davis has no direct ties to Southern Arizona, his offensive chops are impressive, with the former Tulsa offensive line coach leading UNT to the third ranked offense in the FBS in terms of total yards per game (488.7) and the sixth ranked passing attack in America, averaging 322.8 yards per game this season.

Prior to arriving in Denton in 2023, Davis served as an offensive assistant at Washington State in 2022 and as an assistant coach at FCS program Incarnate Word from 2018 to 2021, with a stop as a graduate assistant at Texas Tech in 2016 and 2017.

Throw in a trio of Big Sky Conference FCS head coaches, in Montana State’s Brent Vigen (+440), Northern Arizona University’s Brian Wright (+520) and Tim Plough of UC Davis (+775) and you have the upper end of our U of A offensive coordinator odds board right now.

Vigen has been a one-man tour de force in Bozeman, leading the Bobcats to a 12-0 season while leading the FCS in total yards (5,954) and yards per game (496.2) this season, coming to MSU after spending seven seasons as an offensive assistant at Wyoming and the rest of his coaching career with North Dakota State between 1998 and 2013.

Wright’s lone season in Flagstaff has been impressive to watch, leading NAU to an 8-4 campaign and the school’s first FCS playoff berth since 2017, even though the Lumberjacks found themselves on the wrong end of a 24-0 shutout loss to Abilene Christian in the tournament.

Plough has plenty of OC experience, having served as an assistant at UC Davis, NAU, Boise State and Cal between 2008 and 2023 before taking over at his alma mater this season.

In his first season as a head coach, Plough led the Aggies to the fifth most yards per game in the FCS (463.9), bringing West Coast experience and coaching acumen to Brennan’s staff in 2025.

Throw in a pair of longshots in Utah State Aggies OC Anthony Tucker at +850 and Boise State Broncos OC and former Broncos, ASU and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter at +1010 and you have the full rundown of our picks to replace Babers in Tucson.

For now, Brennan is tasked with identifying the right man to turn around the Wildcats’ sinking ship of an offense in the new year, as Arizona looks to return to the type of play that got the program to 10 wins in 2023 and away from whatever ills ultimately sank the team’s progress this season.
