Despite a late season push that had them on the cusp of another October run, the 2024 Arizona Diamondbacks came up just short of the MLB postseason, a blow to fans across Arizona sports betting. To add more stress to the season that could have been, one of the D-backs' best players will hit the open market this offseason, and plenty of other clubs will be interested in his services.
Christian Walker has spent 8 seasons in Phoenix, developing from Paul Goldschmidt's one-time backup to a two-time Gold Glove Award winner who's good for 30 home runs a year. He's a priority for the D-backs this off-season, but other teams will come calling.

While we give the D-backs (+450) the second-shortest odds to sign Walker, the Evil Empire themselves are the early favorite.
The New York Yankees (+400) embark on another World Series chase this weekend, facing the Royals in the ALDS. Oddsmakers from BetMGM Arizona have the Bronx Bombers as -200 favorites, though don't count out the upstart Royals and star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.
However the Yankees fare in the postseason, expect them to be interested in Walker's services. They won the AL East this year despite an underwhelming revolving door at first base across veteran Anthony Rizzo, DJ LeMahieu and the unproven Ben Rice. Walker would be a significant upgrade for Brian Cashman's club, and while he's earned a healthy deal, Yankees fans - as always - will expect money to be no issue.
There is still a decent chance Walker comes back to Phoenix as well. Hazen has already met with Walker before the veteran departed for the offseason, with Hazen even telling local media that he's "extremely proud" of Walker's career growth and reiterated he is the "best defensive first baseman in baseball by a long shot."
That sounds like a man who is ready to spend to lock up a fan favorite. He just may have to fight off the Yankees to do so.
Other teams expected to pursue Walker include the Mariners (+600), Brewers (+600), Cardinals and Mets (each +1000).
